Series: Mothers Day isn’t enough

We deserve more than a single day of recognition | 3 min read

Yesterday was Mother’s Day. And I have mixed feelings about it.

Becoming a mom is the greatest gift of my life.

But I’ll admit: Mother’s Day feels like a one-day celebration. A day at the spa. Brunch. A few hours ‘off’.

These are nice, but not what moms (especially new moms) actually need.

Today, too many moms in our country are exhausted and burnt out. So a single day ‘off’ just feels like a distraction from a deeper problem.

I remember my first Mother’s Day in 2022. I wanted to be grateful and happy. I was, but I was also confused and angry. Was I the only one surprised by how hard early motherhood was? And why weren’t we talking more about why?

And if it was hard for me, it was definitely harder for moms who didn’t have support or privilege.

One day of recognition is nice, but it doesn’t even come close to the weight new moms carry every day.

This week, I’m sharing what I’ve learned after my fourth Mother’s Day—and as a maternal health advocate, building resources to help the next mom:

-
What all new moms deserve (link)
- What I wish I knew (link)
- What actually helped me (link)

- What moms really want on Mother’s Day (link)

Every mom deserves more than a single day of recognition. And each Mother’s Day just gets me more fired up.
