4 Ways you can create your own luck
The power of reframing when things get hard | 3 min
I can’t stop thinking about this post.
My former running coach, Mario Fraoili, wrote about creating your own luck in the Morning Shakeout this week.
I haven’t run a marathon or triathlon in years.
But the last 5 years have tested my mental strength the same way these races did:
- Becoming a new mom, and pushing through postpartum anxiety twice.
- Leaving a stable job, without another lined up.
- Looking for a new job, and getting rejected. A lot.
- Parenting two under 5 (basically it’s own endurance sport).
There’ve been plenty of times I’ve felt lost, hopeless, or seconds away from spiraling.
Mario’s post reminded me of the power of reframing when things feel hard.
We think of luck as being in the right place at the right time.
But Mario argues that we can CREATE the conditions for it:
🌟 Lead with curiosity: Be open to where something might lead even when you have no idea where it’s going.
🌟 Stay committed: Keep showing up when it’s hard, frustrating, and it feels like nothing's going your way.
🌟 Do quality work: Don’t half-a** things that matter. Keep doing work you’re proud of.
🌟 Be kind: A simple act of kindness can make someone else’s day (and yours too). Everyone wins when you’re kind.
There’s so much we can’t control.
The job you didn’t get. The timing that didn’t go as planned. The 4th time your newborn wakes up at night. The tantrum that lasts 45 minutes. Whether the thing you desperately want actually works out.
But we can control this:
💫 Stay curious. Keep showing up. Do quality work. And be kind.
It doesn’t guarantee luck, but it gives luck more chances to find you – and gives you back some agency while you wait.
