Happy Mother’s Day
What I would say to my younger self | 2 min read
“What would you say to your younger self?”
This is the question I wish every new mom would ask herself on Mother’s Day.
Being a mom is both the hardest and most gratifying role I’ve ever had.
As a 2X survivor of postpartum anxiety, those first years were intense. I also learned more about myself then, compared to any other phase of my life.
It took me a while to recognize that.
We often rush into the next thing that we fail to stop and reflect on what we’ve actually been through. We fixate on what we didn’t do or what we could’ve done better.
So we miss the growth.
Every Mother’s Day, I’ve written a love letter to my younger self answering this question. Before rushing into the next year, it forces me to slow down and honor the one before.
If you’re a mom, ask yourself:
🌱 What would I say to my younger self?
🌱 What were my hardest moments–and what did I learn?
🌱 When did I ask for help? How did I change because of it?
🌱 What am I most proud of?
To the moms who are in the thick of it right now:
Change doesn’t happen when you’re comfortable.
It may not feel like it now, but you’re growing. And when it feels like you’re doing it wrong, remember you’re just doing something new–with more resilience than you give yourself credit for.
I hope you’ll take a moment to do this for yourself. Because you deserve to appreciate the warrior you’ve become.
Happy Mother’s Day.
Thank you Postpartum Support International for sharing my love letter, and all you do to wrap new moms in the support and compassion they deserve.
