Remembering Alex Pretti

Another one of us was shot and killed.
Alex Pretti.
He was 37 years old, a registered ICU nurse with the Minneapolis VA Hospital, and U.S. Citizen.
He devoted his life and career to caring for the sick, the vulnerable, and our nation’s veterans. Before becoming a nurse, he was a research scientist studying infection prevention–work that’s grounded in helping people and reducing unnecessary suffering.
He also stood up for his community.
After Renee Good’s fatal shooting, he participated in peaceful protests and spoke out against things that weren’t right. He stood up for the most vulnerable who were unfairly targeted. He was exercising his 1st Amendment rights.
This morning, he was on Nicollet Ave–in front of a beloved donut shop in south Minneapolis. Just down the block, a family-run Mexican restaurant was prepping enchiladas and a Chinese restaurant was making hand-pulled noodles for lunch.
Then, Alex was shot multiple times and killed by a federal agent.
How many caregivers and community observers have to die before what’s happening in Minnesota is taken seriously?
Our community is burnt out and grieving. We’re fed up from watching these unjust acts continue without real accountability.
