Series: Building the future of maternity care
Building the system new moms actually deserve | 5 min read
When I became a new mom, I was stunned by the gaps in our health system.
Now, I get to build the care system new moms actually deserve.
First, some background.
In 2022, I left my job after having my first baby. That break was a privilege–to be present for her and care for myself.
It also gave me a totally different view of our health system, living it as a patient.
I had some of the best prenatal care, and it was still hard. Since then, I can’t stop thinking: How much harder is this for moms without access?
That question became my purpose: to build better for all new moms. Here’s the post that solidified that for me.
In that next year, I became obsessed with understanding this problem:
- Heard hundreds of moms describe their experiences, questioning how it went wrong
- Learned from providers, researchers, and innovators trying to change the status quo
- Studied companies raising the bar for maternity care
In the U.S., you can have 15+ prenatal visits–yet feel completely unprepared.
Moms are dying from preventable complications. Babies are in the NICU for longer than they should be. And too many moms, especially women of color, have to fight to be taken seriously.
Then I found Delfina.
Delfina is redesigning maternity care to be more proactive, not reactive. Sticking with her between OB visits, and treating her as a whole person.
Last year, I joined as Director of Partnerships to build what I believe in deeply: a care system that truly cares for moms.
In the next week, I’ll share what I’ve learned in my first 7 months:

- What it means to build a system that actually cares (link)

This is the future of maternity care–proving that investing in prevention, access, and value-based care can actually work.
