Systems shift when we speak out. And moms are done being quiet | 5 min read

“Your stories matter.”

That was the theme of every conversation we had during our Chamber of Mothers national fly-in last week in D.C.

First, some background on Chamber of Mothers.

We are a nonpartisan nonprofit movement fighting for basic rights for moms:
🌟 Paid leave
🌟 Affordable childcare
🌟 Maternal healthcare

We unite moms across the U.S. to shape federal policy and organize locally across 43 chapters.

I joined after I had my first baby, fed up with the gaps in our system that’s supposed to care for new moms.

Last week, 20+ moms from Chamber of Mothers’ national team and 4 local chapters showed up in D.C. to advocate for 3 maternal health bills.

Our Minnesota Chapter was invited to share what we’re seeing on the ground. We brought stories, highlighting how federal enforcement activity has disrupted maternal care access.

We made sure congressional offices from MN, MI, MA, KS, NJ, CO, and OH heard our voices.

Here’s Chamber’s recap on instagram.

In the next week, I’ll share my reflections on:
- Why I joined Chamber of Mothers link
- Why this advocacy matters (and why now) link
- What we fought for link
- Who we fought for link
- Where do we go from here link

We can all agree that all moms and babies deserve quality healthcare.

Systems shift when we speak out. And moms are done being quiet.
