2025 March of Dimes Report Card

The U.S. is still one of the most dangerous developed nations to give birth.

The March of Dimes’ 2025 Report Card is another sobering reminder. And every year, I hope the numbers will look different.

So why are we stuck?

  • 1 in 4 don’t start care in their 1st trimesterDelfina

  • 1 in 3 counties are maternity deserts

  • Hypertension and diabetes are rising

  • Deep racial inequities persist

  • Maternal health data is fragmented and inconsistent

But this year, I felt hope after reading it.

After joining Delfina, I’ve seen how outcomes shift when families receive the kind of support the Report Card calls for: focused on prevention and equity. Not crisis response.

In our work with payors and OB partners, things move when we:

  • Identify risk with predictive models (flagging hypertension and gestational diabetes as early as 12-14 weeks)

  • Close early care gaps with education, risk screening, symptom monitoring+ navigation

  • Expand access in care deserts with virtual-first teams + connected devices

  • Integrate data (EHRs, patient-reported outcomes + remote monitoring tools) to prove that acting early works

We need a system of care that’s prevention-first, connected, and sticks with mom—from pregnancy through year 1 with baby.

Thank you March of Dimes for this powerful advocacy tool. We all have a role in getting this country ‘unstuck’ and finally changing outcomes for moms and babies.
