Series: The next six books
This next list helped me figure out how I wanted to do motherhood. | 3 min read
I had to google this twice because I couldn't believe it.
A blog I wrote two years ago is now a top search hit for ‘best books for new moms’ (!!)
When expecting moms (or their people) go looking for books, they won’t find swaddling or tummy time tips.
They’ll get books that make MOM feel whole again.
My first list helped me make sense of motherhood.
This next list is different.
These books helped me figure out how I wanted to do motherhood. How to rest, care for myself without guilt, care for my marriage, let go of perfectionism, and how to ask for help.
And eventually, how to find my voice and push back on the systems that make motherhood harder than it needs to be.
Here are the next 6 books I’d gift a new mom:
🌟 Real Self Care by Pooja Lakshmin (link)
🌟 Rest Is Resistance by Tricia Hersey (link)
🌟 The Motherload by Sarah Hoover (link)
🌟 What About Us by Karen Kleiman (link)
🌟 Hunt, Gather, Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff (link)
🌟 Be Brave Little One by Marianne Richmond (link)
And yes, Real Self Care made both lists. It’s THAT good.
Next week, I’ll share who each book is for and how it supported my mental health.
Moms deserve books that advocate for their wellbeing too. The greatest gift these books gave me was the agency to build the kind of motherhood I wanted.
