Series: The next six books (Be Brave Little One)
For: The mom who deserves the same kindness she gives her baby | 3 min
When my daughter was born, I read this book to her every day. I wanted her to grow up to be kind, confident, courageous, and resilient.
I didn’t expect her bedtime story to teach me how to become those things too.
Here’s my final book rec for new moms:
💫 Be Brave Little One by Marianne Richmond
After reading it for about the 100th time, I realized I needed these messages as much as she did:
🌟 ‘Be brave enough to mess up’: Motherhood is hard and it’s messy. We mess up, we learn, and we keep going.
🌟 ‘Be brave to be with your feelings, each one’: Joy and anxiety, gratitude and overwhelm, confidence and self-doubt can all exist at the same time.
🌟 ‘Be brave to be still when you’ve had enough’. Sometimes the bravest thing a mom can do is rest.
Becoming a mom has taught me way more about myself than any other life stage. It’s given me so many chances to re-parent parts of myself, with more grace and self-compassion.
And now, I think about what I’m modeling for her too.
For me, bravery also means speaking up when something doesn’t feel right.
One of the greatest gifts we can give our kids is showing them what it looks like to speak kindly to themselves – and have the courage to use their voices.
