Series: Your Stories Matter (Why advocacy matters)
I wanted to do something with my mom rage | 5 min read
“Sharing your stories is the most powerful form of advocacy.”
Today, legislators are flooded. They have 13,000+ bills to consider, and it's impossible to keep track of it all.
You know what cuts through the noise?
Your stories.
During last week’s Chamber of Mothers national fly-in in D.C., I learned something new:
💫 Legislators pay attention when their own constituents show up.
Every bill represents real families, communities, and often grief. When they don't pass, those consequences matter too.
Representatives and Senators work for us. But this policy-making process requires participation and partnership. It’s up to us to apply pressure and hold them accountable.
AND we can partner across the aisle to build better futures for all new moms.
Here’s why this advocacy matters now:
🌟 Policy windows open quickly: National events (like the State of the Union the night before our visit) created momentum for domestic priorities.
🌟 Healthcare: It's consistently one of the top issues Americans care about.
🌟 An election year changes incentives: With midterms in 2026, lawmakers need to prove they got stuff done the first half of this year.
🌟 Appropriations cycles are approaching: Funding decisions made now shape what states can implement next year.
Exercising our First Amendment rights is a privilege. But right now, too many in our communities are afraid to speak out.
And the stakes are high.
We are still facing a major maternal health crisis in our country. Federal enforcement activity is causing too many moms to delay prenatal care. Care disruptions lead to preventable complications, emergencies, and loss.
📣 Maternal health care isn’t a ‘moms issue’. It’s an everyone issue that can’t wait.
That’s why engagement NOW matters.
