Series: Your Stories Matter (Where do we go from here?)

Mothers will save us all | 5 min read

“Your story is the most powerful form of advocacy.”

The Chamber of Mothers national fly-in to D.C. on February 25 opened my eyes to a level of advocacy I didn’t know before.

Meeting with legislators was empowering, healing, and gave me hope:
- Hope: That our stories were heard
- Empowering: To play a role in shaping our country's maternal health policy agenda.
- Healing: To share grief and elevate the stories of those who don't feel safe to speak out.
- Powerful: To stand alongside fed up, fired up moms who refuse to accept the status quo.

I'll admit, before this trip I was cynical about the policymaking process in our country. But this visit made me realize the power (and responsibility) we all have in holding our system accountable–so it works for new moms and families.

It also showed that real change takes participation and partnership across both sides of the aisle.

Chamber of Mothers Co-founder Lauren Smith Brody shared with legislators the power of our community:
🌟 A network with deep expertise across law, healthcare, media, private sector, and caregiving to move policy forward.
🌟 A trusted partner to Reps and Senators on issues BOTH parties care about–maternal health, childcare, and paid leave.
🌟 An army of fed, up fired up moms across 43 chapters ready to activate FAST–to vote, collect stories, make calls, send postcards, and action.

This national fly-in is over, but our work isn’t. We still have a lot of rage and energy left to burn.

And our force only gets stronger every time another mom finds her voice.

Whenever you're outraged and feel like our system is failing us, lean into that. Remember how powerful your story is–then use it as fuel to take action 🔥

Because mothers will save us all.
